I raised my head from the steering wheel and wiped away the tears from my eyes. Two damn years ago, that was the last time I’d been this defeated. Megan had helped me in every way, and I had paid her back in full, with interest. Sitting in my car, I decided I was not going to lose my business. Mr. Rodriguez was a royal asshole if he thought I wasn’t going to fight this. I couldn’t move from that old house; it was the perfect place that I had searched so long for. I wasn’t going to give up without a fight. I took a deep breath, trying to control my emotions. I needed to talk to someone about the legalities. Megan was married to a really in-fluential guy, Max Pierce, and if anyone could help me, he could. Time to visit my best friend. With her knowledge and Max’s business expertise, I know we could stop Mr. Rodriguez. I just had to believe.
I knew Megan was home, so I steered the car in her direction. I still couldn’t believe how lucky she and
Max were, after that brutal attempt on their lives six months ago. Max would have died if it wasn’t for Luc Ellis, head of Luc Ellis Security. Max and Megan had been held captive in Pierce cabin. I couldn’t believe why people would do this, but the Mariotto brothers wanted revenge on Max for taking away their family business, and Max had gotten shot in the process. Luc was ex-military and his team killed the bastard, Mariot-to brother’s who’d gone after my best friend at the cabin that day. Megan and Max had both survived and now she was eight months pregnant, with twins to boot.
There was another person I could also go to: Josh Pierce, Max’s brother and vice president of Pierce En-terprises. The man was a genius with negotiation – I could trust him in the business sense, but not as a lov-er. Josh was a billionaire who had everything going for him: looks, brains, a body to die for, and damn did he know how to please a woman. The man was like a god, but after catching him in the arms of another woman, I just didn’t want that cheating kind of person in my life again. Been there, done that, too many times. But geez, that man could make all my girly parts come alive. Just one look, a touch, a sweet whisper in my ear and I could come. That was how he affected me – but I just didn’t want to go down that road again. Seeing him again would break the steel bars that protected my heart.
I decided to drive back to the spa and finish my day, then figure out what I needed to do next. But I needed stronger ammo. I needed Max Pierce to help me; he was the only one I trusted right now. I knew getting advice from Max would be like having the
golden ticket to anything I wanted in the world. He was the only man I knew who could take a struggling company, turn it around, and make a profit in the first quarter without blinking. He was a genius in the busi-ness world – men wanted to be like him, and women would do anything for him, but he only had eyes for Megan. That man worshipped the ground she walked on. It was time to collect on favors that were due. He’d always said if I needed him, all I had to do was call. Right now I needed his wisdom to help me save the spa.
